I am beyond shocked to be the chosen to be the Spotlight Athlete! This definitely made my week! Where do I begin...I have been married to my husband David for 12 years. I have 2 daughters Aubrey (8) and Victoria (almost 3). They manage to keep me pretty busy most days. I am a stay at home mom and work Part-time for a Pain Management Doctor as a Marketing Representative for the past 4 years. I have 3 sisters (Patti, Denise & Veronica) and one brother(Charlie). I haven't always been athletic and I never played a sport in my life. I started working out in my 20s but have always done the typical gym membership, group classes, and kickboxing. I tried pretty much everything that was out there at the time. About 6 years ago I heard about Crossfit and thought right away I have to try it. I pretty much thought I was going pass out and possibly throw-up during the workout, but once I finished I felt awesome and had a sense of accomplishment I never had before. I was HOOKED! I continued for about 2 years until got pregnant with my daughter Victoria and I was advised by my doctor to stop. I was devastated because I had finally found something I enjoyed and worked so hard for, most days it was the only hour I got to myself. I got up everyday at 4am to be there by 5am at least 6 days a week and had to stop completely wasn't easy for me. As parents, we sacrifice and another child was something I had been wanting and praying for the past 4 years so there was no other option. I had to accept it and I did. I took off another 2 years after Victoria was born. I couldn't find the time to manage it all. I was starting with a baby again, Aubrey was starting Kindergarden and I was so overwhelmed with everything I couldn't find the time to go to the gym (or that was my excuse). About a year ago I finally realized I needed to get back to what I enjoy and what makes me happy, and that is being healthy and working out. I drove past Amazen Bootcamp for proabably about 6 months before I stopped and went in. I am not certain what took me so long but I am glad I finally took the time to stop in and do a class. What I first noticed was how welcoming and nice everyone was. The encouragement that everyone gives to one another is amazing. I truly feel that God had everything to do with me stopping in that day. I am so blessed and honored to be a part of this Family. I am so lucky to be able to spend my hour away with such wonderful and caring group of people. Laura King WEAR PURPLE |
