I feel so honored to be the new spotlight athlete!! :) My athletic journey began at the age of 6 when I started taking gymnastics classes. I began training with the team and competing. I was homeschooled and spent 4 to 6 hours at the gym five days a week. It was crazy. I ended up with a lot of injuries and I was worn out from the frequent practices. I loved it while I was doing it but it was time for me to move on. I decided to go to public school and pursue dance after this. I competed with a studio and went on to becoming a lieutenant on the dance team at Smithson Valley High School. My gymnastics background really helped me with dance, and it's amazing how much it is helping with crossfit also!
After high school, I just got a normal gym membership and worked out at the gym but it wasn't something I enjoyed. I didn't have a group of people to go with or a coach helping push me through it. I never really felt like I was getting stronger or making any progress.
My aunt, Stephanie Scott, had been going to Amazen bootcamp for about a year and had lost a lot of weight and really got into shape. I didn't ever even consider going to bootcamp though, until she was the spotlight athlete the year before last. After that, I asked some questions about it and she really pushed me to try it out. I came with her and I immediately loved it! The atmosphere and the energy and commitment of everyone there was awesome and so inviting. I've been coming regularly since November 2014, and it has become my favorite part of each day. At first I thought there was no way I would ever be able to move up from level A and B, but I kept pushing myself and with everyone's encouragement I have gotten to where a lot of the time I can do the Crossfit WOD or level D! I'm amazed! I wouldn't have made progress like that on my own. Camilla is almost always the one coaching at the classes I go to, and I can not be more grateful for how she has coached me. Not only has she been an awesome coach but she has become such an awesome friend as well! I wake up looking forward to going to the gym every day with my 6am class! I have seen so much progress in my strength and stamina since coming to bootcamp. At first I expected to see weight loss, so when I gained weight I was disappointed but I realized I had lost fat and gained muscle! I have so enjoyed coming with my aunt and a few months ago my dad, Brent Andrews, joined us! My sister even comes sometimes when she can too. I love seeing how this gym has changed the way people view working out. It's not just something that needs to be done. It's something we truly enjoy and love to do with our friends and family.
I got married in August this past summer and my husband will be coming back from being stationed in Japan in about 2 weeks. Our next station is in South Carolina. I am so extremely excited to finally be with my husband! Everyone keeps asking me how I feel about the move and I tell them of course I'm excited but of course I will miss my family and friends here too. I tell them that one of the things I know I will miss the most is my crossfit family. They say there will be a gym in South Carolina for me to go to and I'm sure there will be, but no other gym will be like this one. I have made some amazing friendships through this and I have come so far in my fitness and health. I am so thankful for my aunt for getting me started here, for this gym family and for all of our awesome coaches! I will miss y'all more than you know!

Alyssa, I am so proud of you and the woman you have become! I will truly miss going to the gym at 6:00AM with you! But not as much as I will miss having you home with us! Remember, you are stronger than you know! Love ya, Dad!
